| Bio: | My LJ-name has nothing to do with an inability to spell LotR-favorite "Aragorn" properly, it's related to the Spanish city/region of Aragon ^_^ Fandom: I currently watch House MD, Boston Legal, the Beck-series, the Wallander-series, Life on Mars, occasionally CSI and Law&Order and adore British comedy - with a particular soft spot for colleagues Fry and Laurie in their various incarnations and ventures. I've been a huge fan of Hong Kong-movies for years. My love of stylish and cool villains stems from there ^_^ Favorite fandoms: Harry Potter and House MD; others include Final Fantasy (VII especially), Shenmue, LotR, Dynasty Warriors, and Discworld. In some cases I even find the fandom and fan's interpretions more interesting than the original creations like Harry Potter. Character obsession: Severus Snape (pre-DH-version!), Gregory House Other favorites over the years: Saitou Hajime (RK), Ashiram (RoLW), Sephiroth (FF VII), Aragorn (LotR), Havelock Vetinari (Discworld), Manji (BotI), Gui Zhang and Ren (Shenmue), Sun Ce, Sun Jian, Lu Bu and Cao Pi (DW) I invariably end up loving the anti-heroes which might be because they are usually more intelligent and sarcastic than the traditional heroes. Nothing makes me loath a character faster than being told bluntly and repeatedly I've got to love them. Or being told about a chara's "Goodness", "worthiness", "courage" without being shown some proof for that claim in their actions.... Likes: I've been a fan of yaoi for many years before stumbling upon the western pendant slash though I also like het. I adore well-written gen too. But my real and greatest love are IC-characterization (unless it comes to DH "characterization") and plotty scenarios. Squicks: fluff, excessive angst of the wallowing wangst-variety, weepy emo!charas (unless they are originally portrayed as weepy ^_^) and especially adult men written as teenage!girls in all but body and name. I love BDSM-fic but am rather picky as to realistic portrayal and set in my prefered combinations and dynamics (Alpha!Lupin and ÜberDom!Chase for instance make me laugh scornfully at best and gag at worst). By now I'd rather shy away and forego reading than fuming over rape, actual slavery and torture falsely advertised or honestly misunderstood as consensual BDSM - just because cuffs or whips happen to be involved in subdueing victims. HP post-DH: After the horror of finding out that the plothole-riddled, cliched, characterization-raping, Unforgiveables are perfectly okay if used by the JKR-identified Forces of GoodTM (it's only evil if, you know, others do it!) carpet!book was indeed the original my personal HP-canon ends with HBP. I'm talking mainly about characterization here instead of events: thanks to the plot holes large enough to swallow Hogwarts itself JKR left much room to manoevre around the latter if so inclined. I still have problems to imagine what could have made JKR write such utter tripe with tons of factual mistakes as if she didn't know the very own world she created... Amnesia? Podperson? Did a mediocre fanfic-writer win a lottery to publish the last book under JKR's name? And of course it makes argueing of OOC-behaviour in fanfic now practically impossible: after all - if the author herself (!) can suddenly turn around and throw 6 former books into the wind to make characters virtually unrecognizable, why couldn't a fan-writer do the same? It's canon! *gags* Personal: In my free time I'm doing voluntary work at some animal shelters and thus compensating for the current impossibility to keep own pets responsibly due to my living arrangements. I loath stupidity, racism, intolerance, bigotry, religious fanatism of every faith, bullies (which made me hate Sirius Black from the moment he banged an unconscious, helpless person's head repeatedly and deliberately against walls and ceilings - in front of 3 children: that little display told me more than enough of his character. So if you're a Sirius-worshipper who cannot stand different opinions this is not the journal for you!), animal cruelty. And on a more personal note depressions. My active fandom engagement is mainly drawing. I occasionally take commissions when time permits: for HP-art and manga/anime mostly as well as for animal portraits. | |||||||||
